Gala Premiere of Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro Explores a Tale of Terror and Sacrifice

Jakarta, January 13, 2026 — The latest Indonesian horror film titled Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro officially held its Gala Premiere on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Epicentrum, Jakarta. The event was attended by the film’s director, fellow filmmakers, the cast, and producer Mr. Raam Punjabi.

Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro is a horror film inspired by Javanese beliefs and cultural traditions surrounding sengkolo—a concept associated with misfortune and calamity believed to cling to individuals, particularly during sacred moments such as the night of Satu Suro. Beyond delivering terror, the film also highlights cultural and spiritual values that have been passed down through generations.

More than just a horror story, Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro explores a fundamental question: how far are humans willing to go to protect the people they love, and what difficult choices must be made to shield family and loved ones from the shadow of sengkolo. These painful choices are faced by Midwife Rahayu, portrayed by Aulia Sarah. Her noble profession of assisting childbirth in her village is put to the ultimate test when, one by one, the people she loves tragically lose their lives.

In addition to Aulia Sarah, the film stars Agla Artalidia, Cindy Nirmala, Dimas Aditya, Miqdad Addausy, Sharon Jovian, Annisa Hertami, Ence Bagus, Septiadi Wibowo, Lisa Raminten, and several other performers.

The director of Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro stated that the film was crafted with a strong emotional and cultural approach.
Sengkolo was born from our unease toward the stories deeply rooted in Javanese society about calamity and the night of Satu Suro. This film speaks about fear, sacrifice, and the boundaries that humans often cross in order to protect those they hold dear,” the director explained.

Meanwhile, producer Raam Punjabi emphasized that the film was developed with special attention to narrative strength and local cultural values.
“We want to present a horror film that is not only frightening, but also carries a strong cultural identity. Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro is a fusion of local storytelling, human emotion, and high production quality, all of which we have carefully maintained,” said Raam Punjabi.

The Gala Premiere marked the official countdown to the film’s theatrical release and received a warm response from invited guests and members of the film industry. Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release across Indonesia starting January 22, 2026.
